History

When LIGHTDANCERS was founded in 1999,
it’s mission was clear cut:
to be a form of spiritual encouragement for the exotic dancer.
Through the development of numerous resources that weren’t previously in existence and the creation of a website to make those resources available to industry professionals,
LIGHTDANCERS has succeeded in fulfilling it’s original mission.

We helped to pioneer inroads into the exotic dancing industry when there were literally only a handful of ministries in existance. It was one of the most humbling moments of my life to know that we were the only ones representing Jesus at the annual Gentlemen's Club Expo in Las Vegas in the early years of ministry. There are so many incredible moments in time locked in my memory! We've been in the clubs in Nevada, Arizona, Kansas, Iowa and Florida delivering gifts and loving on the girls with a pure heart. We've walked the streets during Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota, Daytona Bike Week in Florida and been in attendance at the Easyriders V-Twin Bike Show and Centerfold Tour in Kansas City, Dallas, Phoenix, and Albuquerqe. Not to mention finding ourselves at countless motorcycle swapmeet shows in the midwest in an effort to connect with the dancers among the biker community. And then there were all of those dinners and Bible studies that we hosted for the dancers who would dare venture forth.

The exotic dancing industry has changed since LIGHTDANCERS first began, and so, after 7 years of ministering to the exotic dancer, we made the decision to refocus our outreach efforts.
In April of 2006, we took the first steps to embrace a new vision by broadening our reach from the exotic dancer exclusively,
to the next generation as a whole.
We began with the teenagers ~ a unique breed unto themselves.

For our local outreach, we chose the name of Mirage,
because in the same way that a real mirage gives the appearance of something that may or may not exist when you look at it a particular way, so it is that we have found that an encounter with a teenager often results in the same outcome with the most amazing results. For specific details on the history of Mirage please be sure to visit our Youth Outreach page.

In all, it has been 8 years of wonder and growth and being entwined in the lives of some amazing people,
but the truth is, the face of ministry has changed. And while we have discovered that while the internet will always give us access to the world, the greatest personal opportunities we have for touching the lives of others with the love of Christ are met through the lives of the individuals whom we encounter on a daily basis.
After all, God's love swings both ways and we have often found ourselves to be the recipients of that love in the most amazing ways when we least expected and most needed it. And so, after 7 years of incorporation, the decision was made to fold the corporation and non-profit status of LIGHTDANCERS in 2007. This task was concluded by 2008.

Ministry is who we are and just because we are no longer an incorporated tax exempt organization, does not mean that our efforts will be halted. In actuality, this reality frees us in unforseen ways to minister to whomever God brings across our path in new and exciting ways and enables us to further bring awareness to those people and issues that we are most passionate about.

The website, which has always been the heart of the ministry before I ever understood the need for it and which was not only provided by Tony Ellis in 1999, but which has also been maintained and supported through the years by Tony and his wife Tammy, will remain as the heartbeat of all we do.
In the time ahead, it will more than likely become an everchanging forum that will undoubtably grow in size and versatility as we continually add a variety of resources and information to further the message of the cross .

So, whatever your interest,
whatever your calling,
it is our hope that as you explore this website
you will be filled with the same excitement to rock the next generation for Jesus Christ as we are!
