For The Christian

We regularly hear from people who are directly affected by the exotic dancing industry. Many want to gain a deeper understanding of "Why?", and some want to make a difference in the lives of those close to them. But those not directly involved in the world of a dancer often ask why any woman would ever consider making her living in such a fashion. The truth is that the reasons are as varied as are the types of woman who have made this their profession.

Everyone enters into this business with a different motivation. Some are coerced into it by the men in their life. Others do it as a means of support, to pay their way through college or to provide for their families. There are youngsters fresh out of high school, single moms, widowed women and wives with husbands in full support of their dancing.

There are those placed there by Satanic cults who never see a dime of the money they make, and others who are so driven by the money that all they can see are the dollar signs. There is the professional who views her dancing skills as an art form, and those who enter in simply for the ever-changing adventure of it. The list goes on. But no matter what the driving force, it is an industry that has a very limited time frame within the life of each woman...yet the choices they make during this moment will last a lifetime.

Because the profits are so extreme, the number of dancing establishments have doubled in the last decade, with a current average of 3000 clubs in North America alone. It is a business that generates 2 BILLION in revenue per year! It has established a solid support system of numerous industry publications, along with an annual conference and trade show. Some dancers have "gone Union", while a wealth of lawyers attempt to uphold club owners first amendment rights as moral issues and fine line legalities are continually challenged.

Presently there are approximately 250,000 dancers in the United States alone. As such, it is industry standard that most are hired as "independent contractors" (much like the construction industry). Hiring the women in this fashion frees the majority of the owners from tax liabilities and hourly employment wages.

In light of this, the dancers are are often required to pay the club a fee to perform in exchange for the "privilege" of working there! But few see it as more than an inconvenience because the average house dancer can easily earn from $500 to $2000 a week, while a feature dancer can earn thousands beyond that in any given weekend! It is because of such double standards that a national organization was formed which strives to better define the dancer's rights in order to protect the women who make this line of work their profession.

Recognizing that God is not the only One who sends people into the lives of His children, makes it easier to understand the great spiritual opposition that exists when it comes to shedding the light of the Lord into this industry. Some of these girls will be ripe for hearing the message of God's love...others will possess hearts of steel.

Because it will be those individuals with a Godly desire to see lives transformed that will make the difference, please remember that thumping these women on the head with a Bible, telling them what sinners they are, and picketing their place of employment in an attempt to shut it down is not our objective. Jesus didn't shove the Gospel down the throats of those He preached to and neither should we.

However you approach the industry, love should be your motivating factor. To aid you in your efforts and help you to better understand the dancer's world, we have developed the manual "Coming Out of the Darkness", along with numerous other resources which are all available as downloadable files from our website! (Either from the Home page or the link below on this page) And remember, that our ability to successfully reach these women starts on the inside of each one of us.... for there are no boundaries that a loving heart cannot overcome when it allows the work of the Holy Spirit.
